George Downie

George is an experienced financial director, management consultant and academic.

A former Principle Lecturer and Director of MBA at the University of East London and a member of visiting faculty at the Universities of Glasgow (Scotland), Exeter (England), Queensland (Australia) and Fuzhou (China). His Doctoral research was in corporate strategy.

Originally trained as an accountant, George has developed research and consulting interests in Corporate Strategy, Financial Risk Management and International Corporate Governance. He holds Degrees from a number of top rated universities, has recently been proposed as a fellow of the Securities Institute and is a member of, and holds, the Chartered Institute of Marketing Diploma.

Before establishing his own consulting practice, George held positions as a salaried partner with Bacon & Woodrow, actuaries and consultants, as a Managing Consultant with Ernst and Young and Senior Consultant with Groupe MaŽl, a specialist French consultancy operating in the Far East, where he spent a number of years operating across the region. He was until recently examiner to the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants responsible for their Governance and Financial Risk Management Papers for the Professional Diploma in Financial Management, and in 2006 completed a revision of the associated professional level study text. He is also the author of the official text book for the governance paper of the ICAEWís diploma in Corporate Finance. He contributes regularly to both industry and academic journals and presents at a number of international and institutional conferences and workshops.
